The Gambia’s President, Dictator Yahya Jammeh, appears to be running out of staffs to fill his vacant high profile Ministerial portfolios these days, forcing him to rescind his reckless firing decisions.
The President fired his Minister for Energy, Mrs Teneng Mba Jaiteh, for the second time on the eve of the country’s 49 independent anniversary on Monday, 17 February 2014, only to reinstate her at the same position Three days later on 20 February 2014.
The President’s office announced in a press release that the President has rescinded his decision and re-appoints Mrs Teneng Ba Jaiteh as Minister of Energy, a post she was fired from on Monday.
It is the second such reckless firing decisions, which were rescinded within a short period, in this month alone. Similar scenario was witnessed on 5 February 2014, when the same President Jammeh fired his Justice Minister, Ms Fatima Mama Singhateh, only to rescind that decision within hours.
Mrs Mba Jaiteh was previously removed from the same position on 12 August 2013 after a minor cabinet reshuffle announced by the President’s office. She somehow bounced back by December 2013.
Again and as usual, no reasons have been forwarded for the President’s weird decisions.
